Federal Aviation Administration Honors Pella Airport Manager
PELLA, IOWA—The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has
honored Pella Municipal Airport manager Shane Vande Voort, president
of Classic Aviation, Inc., as the 2010 Iowa Flight Instructor of the
Year and Iowa Safety Representative of the Year. FAA Safety Team
Program Manager Chris Manthe presented the awards to Vande Voort on
behalf of the FAA’s Des Moines Flight Standards District Office,
which handles pilot and aircraft certification, regulation, and
safety for the state of Iowa.
Vande Voort has been a Certificated Flight Instructor since 1996,
and has also earned his Instrument and Multi-Engine instructor
ratings. He has been accredited as a Master Certificated Flight
Instructor by the National Association of Flight Instructors since
2006. He is a member of the Cirrus Standardized Instructor Program
and serves as Chief Flight Instructor for Classic Aviation's Cirrus
Authorized Training Center. Vande Voort holds an Airline Transport
Pilot certificate with type ratings to fly business jets, and is
also licensed as an Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic with Inspection
Authorization. In 2008, Vande Voort became a Designated Pilot
Examiner for the Des Moines Flight Standards District Office,
“deputized” by the FAA to give flight tests to candidates for all
levels of pilot certificates.
Vande Voort also volunteers as a Lead Representative for the FAA
Safety Team, hosting and presenting safety seminars for fellow
pilots. “Safety programs are one of the most important things we
do,” Vande Voort said, “and I hope that Iowa pilots come to think of
Classic Aviation as a positive contributor to aviation safety in the
state. We owe it to our clients, passengers, and families to always
be thinking of safety first, so we’ve made it a priority to
cooperate with the FAA and other flight schools to offer continuing
education on safety issues.”
Vande Voort has owned Classic Aviation, Inc. since 1999 and has
built the Pella airport business into a full-service aviation
company that provides professional flight instruction, airplane
rental, airplane maintenance, and corporate flight department
support in central Iowa. Classic Aviation is also a Cirrus
Authorized Service Center and Cirrus Authorized Training Center,
specializing in the technically advanced Minnesota-made Cirrus
Aircraft that has become the best-selling model of single-engine
airplanes in the country.
