Classic
Aviation News by Shane Vande Voort
It's been an exciting
summer here at the Pella Municipal Airport. We started off in May with
a Flight Breakfast combined with Tulip Time for the first time ever.
The flight breakfast was a great success and the Airport Committee plans
to hold the event again next year, so plan on bringing your friends
and family out. As always we had a number of aircraft stop by on the
way to Oshkosh. The most distinctive of these aircraft was Oklahoma
Miss, a P-51D Mustang from Alva, OK. The aircraft stopped both on the
way to and way back from Oshkosh and the owner said he plans to stop
again next year. Congratulations to Larry Vande Voort for coming home
from Oshkosh a winner. Patty Wagstaff drew Larry's name as the winning
ticket in the EAA Young Eagles Give a Kid the Gift of Flight Raffle.
Larry won a 2002 Honda GL1800 Goldwing motorcycle. The rental airplanes
have been busier than ever this summer and it has been a pleasure to
see a number of great people working towards their flight training goals
this summer.
Flight Training
News by Bob Thompson
I would like to
take a moment to thank everyone that I have flown with in the past three
months. As you know we have been busy with flight instruction and rental
activity throughout the summer, and at times the schedule has been full.
Fortunately, recent graduations have eased the pressure on the flight
schedule, and the airplanes are available for advanced instruction or
rental with little or no advance scheduling. If you have been thinking
of working toward an instrument rating or scheduling a bi-annual review
now would be a good time. There are plenty of good flying days left
before the weather turns cold. Congratulations go out to the following
pilots for their recent accomplishments.
Gabe Gromotka First Solo
Marianne Vriezelaar - Bird First Solo*
Catherine Vriezelaar First Solo*
Brian Teachout First Solo
Keith Boot Instrument Rating
Cory Halma Private Pilot
Ted Phillips Recreational Pilot
Jeff Bollard Instrument Rating
* Sisters Marianne and Catherine soloed on the same day.
Thank You
Thank you again for choosing Classic Aviation for all your aviation
needs. We hope you all enjoyed your summer as much as we did here. We
will look forward to a great fall and winter to come.
