Happy New Year from all of us at Classic Aviation
2007 is upon us and I am happy to be beginning my ninth year of ownership of Classic Aviation. Thank you to those of you who have been our customers since day one and to those that have joined along the way. We look forward to continuing the growth of our operation and will continue to promote the increase of safe aviation activity in our area. We value the trust that our customers have put in us for flight training, and operation and maintenance of their aircraft and will continue to work hard to earn that trust.

Classic Aviation Employees

Who's New at Classic Aviation
Over the last year we have had some new employees join the Classic Aviation team. Haven Hick has joined the team as an A&P Mechanic. Haven, his wife Lisa, and two sons live in Prairie City. Haven brings a background in turbine powered aircraft maintenance and has completed Cessna Citation initial maintenance training as well as Cirrus AVMx maintenance training. David Olsthoorn has joined Classic Aviation and provides building and grounds maintenance as well as aircraft cleaning. David resides in Pella. Our new office and administrative specialist is Carolyn Vande Voort (yes Shane’s mom). You will most likely hear Carolyn’s voice when you call. The addition of full-time office help is part of our continuing goal of improving our customer service.

Instrument Ground School January 2007
We will be offering an Instrument Ground School this January on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturdays. Class will take place on January 9,11,13,16,18, and 20 and will be designed to have the student ready to take the FAA Instrument Airplane Knowledge Test at the completion of the course. Cost of the course is $250 including the 2007 Gleim Instrument Pilot Knowledge Test book. Those wishing to sit in for individual sessions for review may do so for $40 per session. It’s not too late to sign up, so if an instrument rating is on your list of goals please join us. The course does not require any previous study or flight training and you have 2 years from the date of your written exam to complete the instrument rating Checkride. For more information or to sign up email shane@flyclassicaviation.com or call 628-9393.

C152
Cessna 152 N60SX Available for Rental
Ready for something a little different? N60SX a 1981 Cessna 152 has joined the Classic Aviation rental fleet for a rate of only $60/hour. The airplane just came out of our shop after an extensive annual, engine overhaul, new interior, and avionics upgrade. Our original plan was to sell the aircraft, but we are putting it online as a rental airplane for a trial period and if it rents well we will keep it in the fleet. The aircraft is IFR certified and has dual nav/coms and a VFR GPS installed. So if you are looking for something different, a lower cost rental, or a lower cost way to build cross-country time or maintain instrument currency give N60SX a try. Take advantage of the offer below to save $10 on your checkout in N60SX.

ASF Course Completion Discount ®
In the interest of promoting safety among our rental customers we are starting 2007 with a special offer. Complete any of the AOPA free online safety courses (mini courses don’t count) and receive a $10 discount on your next rental. Just complete the course, print your completion certificate, and present a copy to us to receive your discount. We feel that these courses will add safety to everyone’s flying. Use your discount on any Classic Aviation rental airplane. You can find these courses at www.aopa.org/asf/online_courses or from the weather and safety links section of our website at www.flyclassicaviation.com. Limit one discount per customer.

Upcoming Events at Classic Aviation
This year the annual Tulip Time Flight Breakfast/Airport open house will take place May 5th. Please mark your calendar for a fun day of promoting aviation and our airport and be sure to bring your family and friends. We plan to have our annual FAA Safety meeting this year but have not set a date as the FAA Program has undergone some changes. We will keep you informed when a date is set. Be sure to register at www.faasafety.gov to get email updates on upcoming safety events in the area as well as having access to safety courses and tools.

Classic Aviation and Cirrus Design ® Cirrus Over Water
Classic Aviation continues to grow our Cirrus business. As a Cirrus Design ® Authorized Service Center and Flight Training Center we are able to provide a variety of services to our customers. N853DB, a 2006 SR20 GTS is available for instruction and rental. Renter requirements include completing transition training with one of our training center instructors and holding an instrument rating. Don’t let the instrument rating requirement hold you back if you want to fly this state of the art aircraft - you could complete your instrument rating while completing the transition training and receive your instrument rating in a glass panel IFR traveling machine. If you are interested in the opportunity to fly this aircraft our training center instructors Shane Vande Voort and Jeff Uitermarkt are ready to introduce you to it by either a demo flight or a complete transition training. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience the future of general aviation.
